Henneman Engineering Celebrates 55 Years

Henneman Engineering Inc. (Henneman) is celebrating our 55th year in the consulting engineering business. Founded in 1961, Ralph J. Henneman envisioned a company that would provide engineering solutions responsive to clients’ needs in an innovative, cost effective, and professional manner. In 2016 we continue to accomplish this by reaffirmation of our founding principles: trust, integrity, mutual respect, and service to our clients, employees, and community.

Our core values and commitment to quality have remained constant, however the firm has grown to six regional offices and evolved to a dynamic, multi-disciplinary consulting firm with a wide array of engineering specialties for servicing the needs of today’s high-tech, state-of-the-art facilities and their complex, integrated systems. At the heart of our diverse service offerings is our core strength: leading -edge MEP design with an emphasis on sustainability and a sensitivity to aesthetics. Our expertise in highly technical facilities has been honed through the years with our specialization in healthcare facilities, laboratories, and higher education buildings. From this MEP design strength and competency, we have grown into one of the industry’s most versatile engineering firms. Examples of our expanding services include the following.

LEED Consulting and Sustainability

Henneman is a leader in LEED Consulting and in providing independent commissioning services as required for LEED Certification. But while the LEED project certification and process is fairly young, Henneman has been a pioneer with a strong history of incorporating sustainability principles in all of our design solutions. We have over four decades of experience providing MEP design for technology driven facilities. Energy use and conservation have always been key design elements associated with systems selection and operation. We now offer a wide variety of cutting edge and high-tech services aimed at sustainable project outcomes.

Commissioning and Troubleshooting

Commissioning (Cx) is a systematic process of ensuring, through documented verification, that all building systems perform fundamentally and interactively according to the contract documents, that facility staff are properly trained, and that system documentation has been adequately provided. At Henneman, the Cx process doesn’t end when problems are identified. Our hands-on, skilled engineers work with the design team, contractors, facilities staff and owner’s rep to resolve problems in a collaborative process. We encourage including Cx services early in the design process to help mitigate problems from the onset. Henneman’s Cx success is derived from our MEP design strength. To properly commission systems and equipment, you need to understand design principles, as well as installation issues, construction processes and functional testing procedures.

Information Technology

Henneman has an Information Technology (IT) team and IT engineering service offerings that are unique to the industry. Often described as the fourth utility, the inclusion of an in-house, IT engineering
design department is beneficial in making sure that high-tech, sophisticated systems are successfully integrated. Our expertise in IT systems includes voice/data cabling, fiber optic cabling, security, conference room and theater AV, nurse call systems, just to name a few. Our consulting services help building owners and architects be certain they have incorporated the technology best suited for their project and that necessary infrastructure has been accommodated.

Analytics

Henneman Engineering offers our clients a wide array of analytical services. Today’s facility owners and operators require many additional types of engineering services beyond the providing systems design for new construction or building renovations. These needs can include understanding a facilities energy consumption and costs and looking for ways to reduce it, analyzing and understanding the life-cycle cost and life expectancy of mechanical equipment, determining long term infrastructure needs, or determining if systems are performing optimally. Our talented engineers can assist with any analytical scenario by providing facility assessments, energy modeling, energy audits, value analysis, infrastructure master planning, life cycle cost analysis, feasibility studies, power studies, and retro-commissioning.

An Updated Web Presence

In conjunction with this anniversary, we are updating our web presence. Our website formerly included a newsletter and a blog-type section entitled, “What’s New”. We have replaced those two features with a single, dynamic, go-to section to keep all of Henneman’s news, updates, and articles fresh, current, and easily accessible. We want this new section to be not only a forum for sharing information about Henneman, but to be a resource for our clients providing relevant and useful materials, data, and tools, . . . and maybe even an occasional inspiration.

With the launch of this section, we are also refreshing our corporate LinkedIn page and introducing our new corporate Facebook page. We invite you to “follow” our LinkedIn page, “like” our Facebook page, and check back here often to catch every new article.

As we celebrate our 55th anniversary, we wish to thank all of our clients and friends who have helped as reach this milestone. We look forward to providing you with outstanding engineering services and technical expertise for many years to come.
