Jean O'Brien Gibbons, PE, LEED AP Named Director of Henneman's Chicago Office

In January 2016, Jean O’Brien Gibbons, PE, LEED AP was named Director of Henneman Engineering’s Chicago office.  Ms. Gibbons has over 30 years of consulting engineering experience and over 20 years of engineering management experience.  As Director and Senior Vice President, Jean directs all aspects of the office including project performance and oversite, technical quality, customer service, staff development, business development, and administration.  Jean also oversees Henneman’s mechanical master documents including specifications, details, and design process.

 

Jean has designed mechanical systems for almost every type of building.  Her areas of specialization include hospitals, laboratories, and mechanical infrastructure including steam plants, chilled and heating hot water plants, and air handling systems.  Jean has extensive experience in facility surveys and master planning, with particular focus on 24/7 operations.  This experience has developed her ability to find unique approaches to system modifications and replacements that minimize system downtime while providing improved performance.  Jean is a LEED accredited professional and an expert on energy codes including the State of Illinois Energy Conservation Code (International Energy Conservation Code).  She utilizes this knowledge on a regular basis to design energy efficient buildings and systems.  Over her career, Jean has been responsible for over a dozen projects that were honored with local and regional ASHRAE Excellence in Engineering Awards and a similar number of LEED projects.   Jean enhances her design experience with extensive commissioning experience. This combined expertise, along with her natural desire to understand how things work, have allowed Jean to be successful at solving difficult and challenging system problems.

 

Jean is a frequent technical speaker.  Some more recent talks include a Webinar entitled Ventilation for Healthcare Facilities for the Wisconsin Healthcare Engineering Association, Effects of the Illinois Energy Conservation Code on Facility Operations for the Illinois Chief Engineers & Facility Managers Training Conference, and Hospital Isolation Room HVAC System Design for the Illinois Chapter American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers Young Engineers Association.

 

Jean received a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. She continues her relationship with her department as a member of the University of Illinois Mechanical Science and Engineering Alumni Board.  In addition, Jean is a member of the American Society of Healthcare Engineers (ASHE), the American Society of Heating and Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), Healthcare Engineers Society of Northern Illinois (HESNI), and the International Institute of Sustainable Laboratories (I2SL).
