Volume 4, First Quarter, 2011
Henneman Engineering is absolutely committed to sustainable design!
Henneman Engineering takes the issues associated with energy conservation and corresponding impact to our environment very seriously. We fully embrace the concept of sustainable design and LEED Certification as developed by the U.S. Green Building Council. With over 50 Henneman Engineering staff certified in Green Building design as LEED Accredited Professionals by the USGBC, we understand the protocols and services demanded for commissioning and LEED certification.
Our firm has five decades of experience designing mechanical and electrical systems for technology driven facilities. Energy use and conservation have always been key design elements associated with systems selection and operation. We have promoted and practiced design innovation in an effort to achieve buildings that are resource efficient. This long-standing doctrine of leadership in energy and environmental design defines who we are and what we strive for as a firm.
We are very proud of the four projects that have achieved LEED Gold certification in the first quarter of 2011 and look forward to an opportunity to strike Gold for you!
University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health Centennial Building
Achieves
LEED Gold Certification
The new seven-story, 130,000-square-foot Centennial Building was designed and built to relieve overcrowding of the existing faculty office space within the University of Wisconsin Hospital. Henneman Engineering provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection and information technology design engineering services. This project used a design-build delivery method.
Iowa State University Hach Hall
Achieves
LEED Gold Certification
This project added a new three-story, 138,000-square-foot chemistry building to the campus. Energy efficient lighting, daylighting controls, energy recovery and low-flow fume hoods were just a few of the sustainable initiatives employed. Henneman Engineering provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection and information technology design engineering services and related LEED/sustainable design services.
Chicago Public Schools Irene C. Hernandez Middle School
Achieves
LEED Gold Certification
The Irene C. Hernandez Middle School exceeds ASHRAE 90.1-2004 efficiency standards by 35%. Some of the additional upgrades included more efficient lighting systems and controls, daylighting controls, low volatile organic compound (VOC) and recycled building materials, products manufactured within 500 miles of Chicago, and a construction process that included an indoor air quality plan. Henneman Engineering was responsible for the Gold Level LEED consulting services.
Aspirus Wausau Hospital NICU Renovation
Achieves
LEED Gold Certification
This unit was expanded to increase private rooms from 4 to 14 and to ensure that the newborns receive the best possible care. The NICU achieved LEED Gold certification under the LEED for Commercial Interiors (CI) green building rating system based on a number of green design and construction features that positively impact the indoor air quality and environment. These features enhance the health and well-being of the newborns, their families and the Aspirus staff, as well as reducing environmental impacts, and saving operational costs. Henneman Engineering provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection and informati on technology design engineering services and related LEED/sustainable design services.
