Engine Installation
City of Rensselaer
Rensselaer, Indiana
Rensselaer, Indiana
The City of Rensselaer in Indiana has operated a municipal power plant since 1888. The plant contained five dual fuel reciprocating engine/generators with a total nameplate capacity of 13.62MW prior to the installation of this 8.3MW natural gas Wartsila engine/generator. Henneman’s Industrial Technology Group has worked with the city in all stages of the project including analyzing options, preparing bidding documents, engineering design services and construction observation. This sixth engine will allow the City of Rensselaer to better serve their loads and operate more efficiently. ITG is continuing to work with the city regarding a future additional engine to allow them to meet the city’s entire peak load, setting themselves up for maximum flexibility to be able to operate independently or choose to sell their capacity on the grid.
This project received the Award of Excellence in 2006 from the Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc., Indiana Chapter.
