Gilman Hall - Chemistry Building Facility Assessment

Iowa State University

Ames, Iowa

Henneman Engineering conducted an in depth, room by room and zone by zone, analysis of the existing building systems for Gilman Hall Chemistry Building at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa.  The capacities, condition, and expandability of all systems, including laboratory supply and exhaust, sanitary, domestic and laboratory water, lighting, power, fire alarm, and I/T were reviewed in-depth.  The building assessment provided the client with a comprehensive understanding of their facility and a structured system to evaluate potential renovations.

In concert with the architectural and building systems assessment, a departmental master plan was developed to address the client needs, projected future growth and current infrastructure deficiencies.  The existing building was re-programmed to improve space utilization, organize research functions and optimize the building\\\\\\\'s mechanical, electrical, plumbing and future fire protection systems.

In-depth cost analysis and life-cycle costing provided the university with an honest, objective understanding of their facilities and the steps required to maintain a robust and competitive chemistry department.

Henneman Engineering was responsible for mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection for the assessment of existing conditions, building systems master planning, and cost estimating review.
