Incubator Facility

University of Illinois Research Park

Urbana-Champaign, Illinois

The need for a focal structure in the University of Illinois South Research Park was fulfilled in the creation of the new Incubator Facility.  Termed the “jewel” of the Research Park by the University of Illinois, the Incubator expresses itself as a technologically advanced facility while also maintaining a compositional balance with campus tradition.  The facility will foster the growth of beginning technology companies, primarily in fields such as bio-tech and electronics, but is flexible in the sense that interior space and utility configurations can be easily adapted to house companies from a variety of other backgrounds should changing markets create such a need.  Space distribution comprises leaseable laboratory and office modules, office space for the university and potential investors, conference rooms and community areas.  The facility also incorporates a utility center within itself that exists on the site.

Henneman Engineering was responsible for all engineering design and partnered with Hellmuth, Obata and Kassabaum of St. Louis.
