Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

Meriter Hospital

Madison, Wisconsin

This update of an existing 14,000 square foot Neonatal ICU allows for a state-of-the-art facility providing space to accommodate up to 30 infants.  The new NICU is designated Level III, which means it provides the most advanced high-tech and high-touch elements to ensure that sick and premature infants receive the best medical care available.

The unit also features a large family room for relaxing, dining, computer use and sibling play.  The new unit is located in the same wing as the Birthing Center, making it more convenient for hospitalized moms to spend time with their newborns.  Private rooms for each family provide one of most important attributes of the new unit.

Henneman Engineering provided complete mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection engineering design services.  All new mechanical systems are housed in a new penthouse addition on the roof above this seventh floor unit.  This project was featured as an Architectural Showcase in the September 2007 issue of Healthcare Design.
