New Parish Center/Classrooms Addition/Performing Arts/Athletic Addition

St. Matthew Catholic Church and School

Champaign, Illinois

St. Matthew Parish was committed to an ambitious project to build a new Parish Center and new performing arts/athletic addition.  There has been a long-standing desire to construct a facility to use for Parish functions.  The Parish building was to house Parish offices, meeting rooms, and large assembly space.  The Parish building was configured to connect to both the existing church and school, and designed to compliment the existing building. However, it was careful not to diminish  the church sanctuary as the visually dominant element on the site.

The new performing arts/athletic addition (PAF) has met the needs for performing arts and sports through the addition of a gymnasium, stage with support spaces, locker rooms, athletic offices, concessions and spectator seating, site upgrades for assembly parking, and a visitor drop-off zone.  The PAF has also met the needs of both the Parish and school, but is juxtaposed adjacent to the existing school.

Henneman Engineering provided all planning, programming, engineering design, and construction documents for this project.
