Henneman Engineering was responsible for the design of a complete new steam distribution system from the power plant to eighteen campus buildings. The existing direct buried steam and condensate piping system was replaced with 1,300 lineal feet of full walk through steam tunnel and 5,600 feet of shallow tunnel. Because of the requirements to maintain campus pedestrian and vehicular traffic, the project was designed in 29 phases to minimize disruption of campus activities.
Tunnel and distribution project received the Consulting Engineers Council of Illinois 2003 Merit Award.
