New Elementary School

Tuscola CUSD No. 301

Tuscola, Illinois

To accommodate an anticipated larger student population, and to replace the existing time-worn North Ward Elementary School, the Tuscola School District proposed to build a new elementary school at a new fifteen acre site. The new 68,000 square foot school serves 535 students in grade levels pre-kindergarten through the fourth grade; providing a framework for advancing the current curriculum, implementing new technology, and responding to population growth.

The building program included sixteen general classrooms, two kindergartens, two pre-K classrooms, three expansion classrooms, a library/media center, computer lab, outdoor learning center, art room, music room, multipurpose/cafeteria/stage, food prep kitchen, junior high size gymnasium, special education/LD/gifted/Chapter 1/speech, and early childhood/OTPT.

Henneman Engineering was responsible for programming, site analysis, mechanical/electrical engineering, information technology design, schematic design development, site planning, design development, construction documents, bidding, and construction administration. We also managed the design of the new full service kitchen. This kitchen was designed for flexibility and has three different serving arrangements.
